Has there ever been a game that’s more addictive than Civilization? If there is, I haven’t played it. I spent so many long nights playing the game. Each time, I told myself the classic “Just one more turn”. Sure, Colin. Like you’re really going to play just one more turn of Civilization.
5 hours later, I’d look at the clock in a daze. My stomach hungry from not eating, feeling the urge to go to the bathroom because I’d been holding it back for the past 3 hours….Yes, Civilization is that addicting. Ruminations on Playing Civilization
For a long time, my Civilization of choice was Civ IV. I love the border expansion and the unit stacking. But, a few years after Civ V came out, I finally made the switch over to Civ V. I still miss Civ 4 sometimes, but I’m generally happy with Civ 5, even if the one unit per tile mechanism can get incredibly frustrating when you’re trying to move a massive army around (not to mention how much trouble the dang AI has with stupid unit movements).
Now, I’m debating whether or not I want to make the switch up to Civ VI. The graphics definitely look attractive in places, but I’ve seen too many criticisms to want to move just yet. In fact, I’m probably more likely to jump back to Civ IV than I am to move up to Civ VI.
Anyway, all that to say…what’s your favorite version of Civilization? Are you the Civ gamer who always jumps straight to the new version? Or do you appreciate the classics? I know I sometimes get a hankering to play Civ II: Gold Edition!
